Memories of the future

For Frieze London 2024, 16Arlington creative director Marco Capaldo teamed up with contemporary art gallery Almine Rech to present Memories of the Future. This special exhibition brought together 14 artists to explore an intriguing idea: that memories aren’t just things from the past but are constantly evolving and shaping the future.

Inspired by a piece written for Vogue Italia in 2021, Capaldo invited artists like Rhea Dillon, Remi Ajani, George Rouy, and Francesca Woodman to create works across painting, sculpture, photography, and installation. One highlight was John Giorno’s Dial-A-Poem, a revival of the original “free poetry service” he debuted at MoMA in the 1970s.

Capaldo, known for blending art and fashion, applied the same creativity to this exhibition as he did to his designs for 16Arlington. During his SS25 runway show at the Royal Academy of Arts, Capaldo had commissioned sculptures by Jesse Pollock, one of which featured in Memories of the Future.

Memories of the Future was on display from October 3 to October 19, 2024, at Frieze No.9 Cork Street in London.
